Our commitment to accessible design, the standard we build to, what we know is not yet right, and how to tell us when something does not work for you.

Our commitment

Clinics are staffed by people with a wide range of abilities, and so is our team. We want this website and the clinic dashboard to be usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, navigate by keyboard, rely on magnification, or need reduced motion.

This statement covers healthcoresecurity.ca and the clinic dashboard.

The standard we build to

We design and build to WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

We describe this site as partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That means we have built to the standard and test as we go, but the site has not yet had a full independent accessibility audit. We are not going to claim conformance we have not verified — a conformance claim is a statement of fact, and an untested one is just marketing.

We intend to commission an independent audit and will update this statement, including the date and scope, when we have.

What we have done

  • Keyboard navigation throughout, with a visible focus indicator and a "skip to main content" link as the first stop on every page.
  • Semantic structure — real headings in order, real landmarks, real lists — so screen readers can navigate by structure rather than by guessing.
  • Native form controls. Dropdowns use the operating system's own picker rather than a custom replacement. It is the control people already know, and it is keyboard- and screen-reader-correct without us reimplementing it.
  • Labelled fields, with errors announced and tied to the field they belong to, not just shown in colour.
  • Colour contrast meeting AA for body text, and colour never used as the only way information is conveyed.
  • Responsive layout that works at 200% zoom and on small screens without horizontal scrolling or loss of content.
  • Respect for reduced-motion settings.
  • Text alternatives for meaningful images, and decorative images hidden from assistive technology.

What we know is not right yet

Being straight about the gaps is more useful than a clean-looking claim:

  • No independent audit yet. Everything above is our own testing.
  • The scheduling embed on the free assessment page is third-party software (Calendly) and its accessibility is not under our control. If it does not work for you, contact us at [[GENERAL EMAIL]] and we will book the call with you directly — by email or phone, whichever suits.
  • Blog articles are reviewed before publication, but a long article may contain a table or structure that does not read perfectly in every screen reader.
  • The clinic dashboard has had less accessibility testing than the public site.

Ontario's accessibility legislation

We support the goals of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and its Integrated Accessibility Standards, and will provide accessible formats and communication supports on request, in a timely way and at no additional cost. Our feedback process is the one described above.

Prepared using our own evaluation of the site against WCAG 2.2 Level AA. It will be revised when the independent audit is complete, and whenever a change to the site makes it inaccurate.
